It is a chemical compound, and is also known as witherite, insoluble in water and soluble in most acids. It is used in rat poison bricks, ceramic
glazes, cements and acts as a flux, a matting and crystallizing agent which combines with certain coloring oxides to produce unique colors not easily attainable by other means.
