Sorbitol, a polyol( sugar alcohol) is used as a sugar substitute and bonding agent. It is also known as a Nutritive sweetener because it provides dietary energy. It is used in pharmaceutical industry as a good humectant and plasticizer sorbitol is usually used in emulsions ointments and in gelatine.
